I am so sorry that you have had to deal with all that, but being in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship requires it sometimes (just like being married). It will get better, but will just take time. I just spent 10 weeks with the hubby in the hospital (intestinal transplant) so I know how bad it can get. The ICU was awesome and never had any problems there. I could stay with him 24/7 and if there were more people staying, the waiting rooms were full of people who were camping out and sleeping on the floor....no space anywhere, all full. I think the biggest thing I have learned throughout my husband's illness is that you can always say NO! No to a test, No to a med, No to a nurse or Dr. As difficult as it sounds, you sometimes know what is best for yourself or your significant other and will have to take a stand against unnecessary testing and drugs. Make the Drs and nurses explain things until you understand and never, never, never take for granted anything. Drs and nurses make mistakes too!
