Did you go to a smaller block size?
Every 4PP has its own look ... you may have been trying to measure yours up to a look that's impossible. Just as another person's will not match up to yours.
When you come to choosing your sashing, try a very dark green (skip the black) and you'll see the blocks pop! Plus the green will keep the garden effect, that black would not!
