I thought that Iris wanted sun on their rhizomes, as opposed to being among groundcovers.
I don't think vinca would outcompete crab grass, though...
I have to agree with this. The rhizomes prefer air and light on their tops. I get crabgrass/nutgrass on top of mine, and they don't like it at all!
