Work with me here please :-); they way you have stated it would be a big DUH to many. If you meant to say 'don't forget to lower the feed dogs', makes more sense. Again, work with me; perhaps I missed your point. ;)
Remember to lower the presser foot is a must. That would be the first thing to think about if you are getting a mess on the back.
