Sounds like you are progressing well!
Good job! Don't worry about "imperfections" ... if you can't see it at twenty yards, going twenty miles an hour, it really isn't there!
I think it is a good thing to start as basic as possible ... when you know how to do the very basic and continue to advance, you have a better concept of how perfectly wonderful the additional tools are.
