Well, I read this tip somewhere and it seems accurate. Take two #2 lead pencils and rubber band them together. They need to have sharp points of course. One outlines by your template, the other marks 1/4" away.
You may want to give it a try.
I do have a blue 1/4" ruler. The 1/4" is inside the blue plastic straight item. Not useful with curves.
