I have been working on this quilt for almost a year. For some reason choosing the layout and fabrics was a difficult task. But, I am very pleased with the way both sides turned out.

The first side features hand embroidery quilt blocks that my daughters Godmothers mother made. They are very pretty and since Godma loves purples, I chose purple as the main fabric and then chose fabrics that I thought would enhance the embroidery blocks. I really enjoyed putting this side together.

The second side, I chose a pattern called Dogwood from a quilt book Big Book of Best-Loved Quilt Patterns. I did not follow the design layout exactly, but added my own extra additions...butterflies and birds.

I learned a new technique starch turn under with cardboard templates. I enjoyed learning this, although it is rather time consuming. I straight stitched the flower petals, leaves and bias on; another new process for me. With the birds and butterflies, I chose satin stitching. But used some metallic threads which was another first. To finish it all off, I decided to try my hand at free motion machine embroidery using a small zig zag stitch.

I had so much fun doing this project and experimenting. Thanks for letting me share and I hope that you enjoy your quilting projects. Sorry the pictures are not that great!!!
