I have a viking # 1 and I don't drop the feed dogs leave them up and put vinyl or a supreme slider over the bed plate and walla very nice stiches. the vinyl I get at wal-mart and just cut a hole for the needle to go through and bring your threads up and go. also, tape the vinyl down with shipping tape so it doesn't get pushed along with the quilt. Works great. There is also a sheet called supreme slider I love it, but they are like 28.00 where as the vinyl you can buy by the yard, very inexpensive. I also use a topstitching needle,usually a #90.
