I used cardboard stock paper and found the hexagon printout online or you could draw your own then print them out. You'd need quite a bunch to start with. As mentioned elsewhere, I punched a hole in the center (didn't have to be exact) and I used a small pin to hold in place. Once sewn to another block, I took the cardboard piece out and re-used. this work for me anyway. Good Luck !!
