Your construction of the block looks great. Good job. As someone else posted I think the problem is that the scale of the prints is too similar. I think if you play around with the fabrics you'll find that you'll be pleased with the results.
BTW, I have many orphan blocks that were tryout blocks that didn't make the cut or turn out with the overall feel that I wanted from it. That's why it is very important to make a sample block first before cutting all the blocks out for an entire quilt. So, you're on the right track! Try, try again.
