The pattern says cut 1 7/8" squares and cut diagonally (to make 1" HSTs I suppose)

To make the flying geese, it says cut a 3 1/4" square on both diagonals - and a 2 1/2" x 1 1/4" rectangle. I guess this makes a 1 x 2 geese.

How do I convert these traditional cuts for speed piecing? I refuse to work on the bias with pieces so small. Is it even worth it?

Here's the 6" block pattern: http://www.quiltpro.com/botd/setup/2...ndship_Win.pdf
