Yesterday I tried putting some normal 40wt cotton thread in the bobbin but I continued to get skipped stitches and a birds nest (still the top thread). I called my dealer and the only suggestion was to rethread the top. I've done this already (a few times). If that didn't work I was told they'd have to evaluate the problem. I'm assuming this means they'll take a look at the machine. As far as the skipping stitches they said they'd need to talk with a Bernina educator. Honestly I don't think that will do any good because I believe there's a design flaw in the Bernina Stitch Regulator as I had this same problem with my 440 (even after the updated spring) and have read tons of other people's complaints about the same thing.

I wish it was as simple as saying, "I'm unhappy with the product, it doesn't work correctly, please give me my money back."
Rachel, is it only doing this when you use the BSR? Have you tried without it? I never use mine. My quilting is much better (not completely even or perfect) without it and you are so talented, I know yours would be even better still! If it is doing it without the BSR, you need to bring the machine to the dealer and make them satisfy you. Take your sandwich and have them thread, wind the bobbin, all that to see it isn't you, but the machine.
Gosh, thanks for the compliment, you made me smile. :)

As of right now the skipping is just with the BSR because I don't have another foot for quilting to try. ($7k for a machine and it doesn't even come with a plain quilting/darning foot. I liked the foot selection much more on the 440.) I don't have the BSR plugged in though so the machine is in regular sewing mode and I just dialed the stitch length down to 0. I ordered a plain darning/quilting foot earlier this week that will hopefully be here today or tomorrow. I'm going to try it on my machine and see if that eliminates the skipping. If that doesn't help anything then I'll get more serious with my dealer. At this point I don't want to demand any fixes if the problem only lies in the BSR. If the machine will work in all other areas and the BSR is my only trouble then I'll live with that.
