Compromise and use laterals. It's what I did. It keep my fabric out of sunlight and it's tucked away neatly but laterlas open differently than drawers. The front slides up and the drawer part slides out so you can see everything. You can stack them or stand them up like bookshelves. Here's a picture of the outside of mine. Let me know if you want to see it open. It's about 5' x 5' and holds a lot of fabric. You can also stack storage boxes or quilts waiting to be quilted on top. I got mine pretty cheap from law firm that was closing.
