I tried this way but it takes too much time for me. I can zip the seam open with a seam ripper/cutter in seconds, run a scotchbite pad down a long seam and all the thread pieces are picked up in one swipe. I don't think many know how to use a seam ripper, if you are picking out a few stitches every few stitches, then you are wasting a lot of time. In one basic quilting class we were told to sew seams using scraps and spent and spent time learning how to take out seams without distorting the fabric.
