I have mine on the counter by the stove holding my cooking utensils. But mine is a "country" kitchen - might not work for everyone :) I have another (from when my dad's broke. I don't really have THAT kind of bad luck with crocks :) downstairs by the fireplace to collect the woodash. If you're hesitant to put it in the oven, you could also put dried or silk flowers in it and use for a centerpiece or decoration.
