ooh so sorry i'm not as familiar with retayne. i have used shout's color catchers with good luck. it is possible that the fabric was exposed to sunlight--like in a store window- and would not show fading until washed. only you can decide if it is still ok to use. but if you are hating it, you won't like any part of the process of quilting for DDIL. so sorry i can't be more helpful
