This is the best idea of all. Get all your friends together, but frirst take pictures "as is", stop the check and file in small claims court. She should have realized she couldn't do it. My question is--could she have taken it out of the machine and finished the other side? I know nothing about LA quilting.

If she couldn't do it on her LA I think you'll have a heck of a time doing it on your machine. Do you have any quilting buddies? Perhaps they would get together with you and help you hand quilt like in the 'good old days' Good luck.
