Tried tea dying some scraps; don't think I'll do it. The "pink" was toned down nicely and I like that but it covered the white stars in the navy fabric.
Solution: I scrunched it up and draped it over a chair arm. You guys rock: thanks for the suggestions and compliments.
If I helped one person "step away" and avoid this happening, it was worth it!
