well, NO, then it is just a coaster and not a mug rug..a mug rug is larger and intended to hold a larger mug and cookies!
a coaster is smaller and just for a glass to sit on...
also as a coaster you would have to leave out the batting...it would be unstable with batting in it....this is THE best pattern for a coaster...wine glass or regular glass!

I have a set of coasters that were given to me by a quilter who owned a quilt shop and they have batting in them. She used warm and natural. I use them on my wooden table on my sunporch for drinks and so far they have not left a watermark.
