I have a vintage Singer repair man I go to and he highly recommends the 301's over the featherweights because they are gear driven not belt driven...and says..."don't yell at me ladies who own featherweights" They are better made and a better machine then the featherweights...
301 weight is 15-16lbs...has a carry handle and very light to transport.
The older Featherweights are gear driven too. It was the newer ones that were belt-driven; like my white one.
All featherweights are belt driven, meaning that it needs a belt to run the motor.
