My repair man, who is so wonderful, advised me not to change the electrical cord on mine. He said the old "cloth" cords are better for these machines as long as they are not frayed or have any bare spots. Mine looks awful, but is not damaged so I kept it as-is and it works just fine, but I ALWAYS unplug when not in use.
