I too have done family geneolgy. In touring a cemetery-- my DH tells people that we visit dead relatives!-- we found a woman buried next to his grandpa. This man died in the 1960's. grandma died 1930's. The woman we found in the cemetery was his second wife!! My husband never knew he was married again, the cousin with us said,"that's just as well, we don't talk about her." Maybe in your case the second marrage was taboo to talk about also.
