I have hand quilted a flannel quilt with flannel on top and on back. I had to use a thicker thread to hand quilt- something like a jeans thread (I think that is what it was called). And had to take slightly longer stitches. Otherwise, regular hand quilting thread and small stitches get buried in the fabric. I used a poly batting. We use this quilt all winter long. My dh asked me to do this and I was very skeptical. But, it was really no problem.
