I have made lots of mini's, but usually have a cavaet. Use only scraps. I have containers in 1/8th increments starting with 5/8" thru 1 1/4" and that is what I use for my mini's. I can't stand to throw fabric away, but don't like to cut small cuts from large pieces. I don't PP either. It puts an extra edge to my creative process!
