I have done the same thing in the Stir Crazy popcorn popper. I have found them at yard sales and thrift stores. You add everything at once and wipe it out with a paper towel when done. Has worked for years and doesn't hurt the popper. Best if you turn it into a metal or glass bowl instead of the plastic bowl/top provided with the popper as the sugar will be hot enough to warp the plastic. Ann in TN
