I've made three of them - all lap quilt size. They didn't involve making separate quilted squares and then somehow attaching them with bindings though. My patterns are all made of strips (front, batting & backing) sewn around a center rectangle or square in a special way so that seams are enclosed. Keep adding strips to your required size, add binding, and it's finished.
I like the process and will probably make one again some day.
