I've never done it, but I've seen some really nice crayon 'painting' that looks very realistic that might work for the snow. Search here for it; some of the examples I've seen are here on the board. Just an idea. I like landscape quilts, too, and look forward to seeing yours. I haven't been adventurous enough to try it myself.
