I would tell him that you will support what ever decision he decides to make and that you will make him another one. I know that my kids would keep it since I made it but that's just the way they are. I have always heard that when you use cotton batting it is cooler to use in different seasons. If he's one that no matter what season it is he stays on the warm side try using flannel as the batting; make sure you wash it first so that if it wants to shrink it'll do it before it's quilted.
