It would be in bad taste to request the quilt back... according to my mother; I ran into the same situation about 8 years ago..... let her keep it. As far a s a summer weight quilt goes, use flannel, make sure you wash & dry it several times to get all the shrinking out of it. That'll make a nice light quilt.
