I do mine the easy way. Cut squares an inch or so larger than needed. Put two fabrics face to face and sew all around them.

Cut from right side top to left side bottom.
Or from left side top to right side bottom.
Open and press.
Cut down to whatever size you need.

I'd rather waste a little fabric than take the time to do it
"the right way". It frustrates the living $%$^^ out of me
doing it the piddling slow but perfect way. I'm with Flylady,
that oh-so elusive "P" word is not allowed in my house.
