os is right. the outline of the frame is for the piece that is the back of the quilt. it's the one that turns over to become the sashing. the smaller shape, the small sqaure hole, is the shape and size for the batting and the fabric you want to use as the show-off piece. when you view the quilt, you'll see this smaller one, surrounded by the larger, turned over fabric. picture a wrapped binding. that's what each block will look like. look at the video:
