15" is really overkill. Barbm's 14" already has plenty of extra fabric.
Remember, the exact measurement would be 12 7/8", so the 14" really allows for a lot of extra to trim down.

I would suggest using a bit of starch and ironing the 2 squares (rights sides together) - that way they won't shift while you draw the line, sew the 2 seams or cut them apart.

It's amazing how quickly these go together - really in an afternoon. Even without any border (at 48") it's still a great baby quilt.

And if you wanted a smaller quilt, or smaller blocks in a larger quilt, just make the HST's blocks smaller.
