I don't have a fancy machine, I have problems with my 1/4 inch seam, I don't prewash, I use what thread I have, I use what fabric I can afford, and I am always confused with which way to press a seam. So you can see I don't do much of anything right. Sure hope Charisma can quilt the Snake River log cabin I sent to her. But I just thank God that I can enjoy quilting because I love it. I am a caregiver for my 87 yr old brother, my 76 yr old husband and my 56 year old son. It is an outlet for me. I thank God for it. Love all of you on the board. God bless
You're not doing anything "wrong".

I don't have a fancy machine. I still sew on the cheap Singer that my mom bought for me in high school when I took a sewing class.

I don't have that fancy little 1/4" foot so I mark all my seam allowances.

I do pre-wash, but I use whatever fabric I happen to like as long as it isn't threadbare and I sometimes press my seams *gasp* open.

I got depressed looking at this board once, too. At the time I didn't have the funds to really quilt or the time to do it so I'd maybe get to finish one quilt a year. But others would be churning out a quilt every few months. It got me down that I wasn't getting more quilts done and I didn't feel like I was a real quilter, but others told me otherwise. Its not about how many quilts you get done in the year, what kind of machine you use and how expensive it is, what quality of notions and fabrics you buy, or how extravagant your quilts are. Quilting is about enjoying it and it comes from the heart. :)
