I use one alot when drawing a cutting line on large pieces of fabric. I put two quilter's omnigrid squares on the two corners and put the yard stick between them to measure across the fabric. I could rip a long edge I guess but I hate the way that sretches the fabric edge. I also use it the same way to square up a finished quilt before adding the binding. I draw a straight line on the edge of the quilt and then slip my cutting mate under the quilt and cut with my rotary ruler and cutter.
