Bears are dangerous animals. They also become habituated and can cause damage. Here in Alaska we are well versed in avoiding unnecessary interaction with bears. It is important to understand that whilst you may think you are doing the bear a "favour" you are actually risking breaking laws and possibly creating problems for your neighbours if the bear decides this is a great place to call home.

"NEVER FEED BEARS – They will associate people with food and may become a persistent problem for you and your neighbors. It is illegal to feed bears in Maryland."

I am sorry if this sounds like a lecture, but if you have ever seen a small orphaned bear have to spend the rest of it's life housed in a zoo because humans saw fit to be irresponsible and selfish you would might see it from a different angle.
