Yes, hand embroidery is alive and well in Oregon! The local quilt shop even offers classes and the teacher also does the "utility" stitches that were long ago used in pioneer homes. I myself do hand embroidery, counted x-stitch, knitting (and purling too!), crochet and quilting. Everything goes in cycles and the time has come around for all the "old" arts. Embroidery is something I am able to do in the evening after all the outside work is done. Very gratifying. :wink:
