A few years ago I was looking for a car - found a nice used car for a couple of thousand and was looking at it. The guy at the lot told me - you don't want that car, it's a stick shift. I said "why not". He said well, women usually don't know how to drive a stick shift. I told him when I learned to drive there wasn't anything else and I learned to drive in a 1932 Ford that had a rumble seat, floor shift with a big dice knob on top and an Ooogah horn. Loved that new (sorta) car - got 30mpg on the freeway in rush hour traffic (LA). On the interstate it got 44mpg.
