I make quilts for children's charities that go around the world. Sometimes they go to harsh conditions so white backgrounds are not suitable. I really am having trouble with the popularity of white backgrounds in all of the patterns offered nowadays. Sometimes it's hard to visualize what they would look like with a dark background.
