1. Get rid of McAfee (I gave up on it when it was slowing down my computers) and get the free Microsoft Security Essentials. I've been running it on three computers for over two years now with no problems.

2. Download CCleaner
http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER and run this weekly.
3. Download the free version of Malwarebytes:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/ This is one of the best programs for getting rid of viruses.
4. Download the free
http://www.superantispyware.com/ This will alert you to any problems. While you cannot have two Security programs running at the same time you can and should have more than one anti-spyware program.
5. I use firefox as my browser and have WOT as an add-on. It will id unsafe sites:
