I know that I got my interest in sewing and quilting by watching my mother and my great aunt but I have never had any friends that sewed or quilted. It seems to be the trend for young people today to do everything as fast as you can and if some gadget will do it for you, that's even better!
My 30-ish nephew met his wife through an online gaming network. They have all the latest and greatest, and his wife makes beautiful quilts and baby accessories. Other 20-something nieces have all the electronics, too, and are incredible painters. The need to make art transcends "things". I remember a time when traditionalists wondered if quilting would die out because of sewing machines, rotary cutters, and all the other gadgets that we take for granted today.
