I was recently on the floor pinning two parts of my quilt top together. The smaller part was wrong side up and the part that was larger extended beyond that so you could see the right side of it. My six year old came over and sat down next to me. He looked for a minute and then said, "Well Momma, it looks kinda good, but it looks kinda horrible too." I couldn't help but to laugh and ask him why it looked horrible. He explained that this side (the right side up part) looked nice and smooth but this other part (the wrong side up part) looked bumpy. That bumpy side looked horrible he said. I explained it was the wrong side, etc. and then went about finishing the pinning. I couldn't help but to laugh occasionally as I was working though. I don't think he understands quite how strong of a word "horrible" is, and he certainly doesn't understand yet how to be tactful when talking about another person's work.
