In a situation like that, I'd leave plenty of room in my own head for the possibility that I was misreading her reaction. Unless she came right out and said "I have nothing but disdain for you because you don't quilt the tops you've pieced", I don't think you really need to worry about it. I've often felt as if someone were judging me or being critical, and later find out that it was just my own insecurity talking --- that person was not thinking or implying any such thing.
