mine eyes have seen the edges of the binding of the quilt,
i have worked and worked for hours and the starch on the wilt.
i have batted, pinned and stenciled 'till my table's on the tilt-
that quilt will soon be done!

glory, glory hallelujah,
glory, glory hallelujah,
glory, glory hallelujah,
my quilt is almost done!

the "inspectors" sit and watch me waiting 'till my back is turned.
they climb up and sit upon on it like it's privilege they've earned,
i pick off hairs and smooth things, and my patience's nearly burned--
the quilt is almost done!

(chorus)

i've read books by fons and porter, thimbleberries and bonesteel,
i have books on scrappy , thirties, forties, and ezekiel's wheel;
studied books on how to bind it, tie it, birth it, and it's real:
that quilt is nearly done!

(chorus)

i've debated batting in my head, and chosen color hues,
i have stashed and bashed and trashed my cloth until i have the blues,
i have envied quilts of beauty, 'broidered, even "painted shoes"-
but mine is almost done!

(chorus)

i am sitting in my easy chair, with needle, hoop and thread.
my coffee, cold beside me, and my sandwich, now dry bread;
the final knot is buried, and in triumph, raise my head-
my quilt is finally done!!

glory, glory, hallelujah,
did it with my quilter's ruler,
glory, glory hallelujah….

er,,,it is too soon to start the next one????
