You are going to be amazed at what that Kenmore can do with free-motion quilting. :)

Looking at the zoom picture at Relics, it looks like the 1400 is a super high shank or maybe only a high shank. Either way, you will probably be able to outfit this machine with a complete set of attachments and cams really cheap if you start watching eBay.

Both of them will absolutely plow through anything.
