First, I want to say THANK YOU to all the hints and suggestions and encouragement offered by members on the board. Without you all, I'd be a frustrated quilt top creator! This is my fourth quilt top and I am still honing my skills on accurate fabric cutting and consistent seams. Members who struggle with the same issues as I do or have overcome those issues were very helpful when asked about how to match up the seams on my bargello. I probably worked more diligently on this top than the previous three. I also feel many more bargellos in my future!

Never having done a bargello, let alone very many quilts, I decided to practice doing one. Looking at some examples, it seemed that making my own pattern wasn't going to be too difficult. Using QuiltAssistant, I created a design and painstakingly colored in all those little squares before I realized I could enlarge the grid. Gosh, all the squinting was unnecessary.

I picked a few fabrics (6) that I wouldn't miss too badly if I screwed up the quilt top. It was just enough fabric for the 30 x 30 grid with enough left over for goofs. I was surprised at how little waste of fabric there was. I was doing ok until, while sewing the strips together, the seams weren't all matching up. What now? Of course!!! Turn to the Quilting Board!!!

Cut sew cut sew cut sew and lots of advice from you wonderful quilters and here is the result:
