Yes it does. I did the same for the coverlet, but b/c my blocks were not perfect I got a few surprises here and there. If I wouldn't have had to change the size, which caused me to make more mistakes, I think I might have had a better top. Now I'm considering free motion instead of stitching in the ditch b/c of it. I'm shaking in my boots at the notion of free motion though. I'm trying to figure out what pattern would be easiest :)

I usually sew my blocks into rows and then the rows together. To keep the bulk down when I'm sewing, I'll sew, for example, Rows 1 & 2 together. Then Rows 3 & 4 together. Then sew those 4 rows together. (Does that make sense??)
