I think dishwashers are supposed to use less water than handwashing - well, if the dishwasher is full when you use it. But there is something about hand washing dishes. We don't have one at the family cottage and it can get a bit much when we have tons of company but on the other hand, I can always tell who the generous guests are by who offers to help dry the dishes.
