Congratulations on making your first quilt a very beautiful one. Welcome from Lowell, MA. I've done a few double irish chains, and I like the idea of a heart in the open block. I think I would just quilt a diagonal line through the smaller squares, just in one direction, or you could do an "X", but one will do nicely, Just my opinion. Welcome aboard.
