Actually they don't close the main road down, it is the Hwy heading E>W and huge trucks just roll on through while you're strolling around quilt watching. You just have to be on your guard. It is a fantastic experience & we've been a few times but you need to reserve your hotel approx. a year in advance if you want to stay any place near. We have stayed in Bend, but in the morning on the way to Sisters you end up in a traffic jam.... and if it's hot.... like 100*F...it doesn't always make for a great way to start your day. It's a wonderful experience & who knows how many more years it will be on....so do yourself a favour & experience it! Even DH enjoyed our times there!
