This is about 9" by 12". The background squares are 1". They are machine pieced. The centerpiece is a hand appliqued butterfly from my G'ma Drake, which is about 50 years old -- she died when I was in my early teens. I trimmed down the muslin square that she had used, then hand appliqued the muslin onto the pieced background. I hand quilted diagonally across the squares.

Then, because the butterfly was already puffing out, I made a slit in the backing and stuffed it some. That is why the quilt pulls in a little at the sides -- I added the stuffing only after everything else was done. I am going to try to block this out to more square, but I could not wait to show you how cute this is!

I have several other butterflies that G'ma made -- I'll stuff them first, from now on!
